Hi all...

So I have been stalking the forum for a while but finally am registered!

I have purchased (stupidly) a roger Clark cvx16 and wondering if anyone could answer any questions? I theink se7en seemed to know his stuff for sure about them.

Firstly anyone any idea of previous owners/history on the off chance? She was called ruthless in red flake?

Anyway allegedly all she needed was carpet new seats and an outboard and she was good to go... no she needed a lot more... a floor a transom and a stringer...

First question this is my second roger Clark glastron (other was an ssv151) and my 3rd glastron (one was a full fat import) both my other two were the same boat (ssv151)both my previous two had original floors transoms etc and a key difference. In the rc the floor was chop strand covered in a resin paint, the transom was just the grey resin paint as well no real resin
Now I have my cvx it was exactly the same! Is that normal? My other ssv has a thick layer of resin on both the transom and the floor and was solid!

Next any ideas when rc produced them over here trying to ascertain the age.

Ok last question... would it be possible that from the factory the stringer designs from roger Clark would be different? I am trying to replace them but all of the us based guides show one stringer in the center we whereas mine has two off center.. any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Dan

Hello Dan
I too have been looking for info on the Roger Clark Glastrons. There is nothing useful on the 'Google' searches. Although I have just re-started a rebuild of a Draco 2000DC last week (after a year in a field), I have just bought a 1978 RC Glastron ccv153 with its original '78 Mercury 90hp 6 cylinder. This will hopefully be a quick project - new floor and ribs, small amount of gelcoat work, minor upholstery repairs, minor engine fettling, and, for the moment, a swap to a modern 60hp 4stroke Merc engine .I will post pictures of my rebuild to compare with your experiences. Any info I get from anywhere I will be glad to share with you.

Hello Dan, the 'break down' of my SSV153 is now complete. The construction is:
GRP hull with a mixture of woven and Chopped Strand Mat. Moulded in grey metalflake stripes. Lightweight lay-up weights compared to my Fairey Hunt 14 and half the finished thicknesses compared to the Draco 2000DC !
The floors were softwood plywood probably 19mm. About 450gm of CSM on top. Probably nothing on the undersides. The transom is two thicknesses of 19mm ply sandwiching a thin layer of CSM, the first piece of ply was bedded on to the hull with a thick layer of polyester filler. The front half of the bilge has a 4 inch wide piece of plywood in the 'V' with CSM on top. The inside of the transom is just painted with the same grey tinted resin that was used to seal the bouyancy foam in the aft of the boat. The floors sit on two softwood stringers that just rest on the hull, equally spaced apart from the centreline to provide an under floor ski locker. They are then well wrapped in GRP. The main floor section edges just rest on the hull and then had polyester filler used to fair them in. On my boat this joint had failed. The floor and stringers were mostly rotten as was the transom. The only piece of wood re-useable was the forward half height bulkhead. The hull and topsides are very good though and will require only small gelcoat repairs. All the fittings are good.
I am fortunate that my boat is in a heated garage so I can press on now. I look forward to hearing of your progress.

John.
