Austrian Broom 'Moomba'

Post by BroomBroom »

Klaus originally contacted me through my 'Gina' blog - and has now finished the restoration of his own Saturn. He's had a few difficulties uploading so I'm posting this on his behalf. The links to his Facebook galleries at the bottom of the page show what a great job he has done - well worth a look.

Over to you Klaus...

Dear British speed boat fans!

My name is Klaus and I am from Austria. I would like to tell you my story about a British Broom speedboat - my childhood dream.
In 1977 my grandfather decided to buy a green Broom Saturn boat with a Mercury Thunderbolt 500. As a child (I was born 1981) I had wonderful holidays in Greece with that boat.

The name of the boat was Moomba - which means translated - let's get together and have fun.
In 1997 he was too old to handle the boat. So he decided to sell it. However I was too young to get the new owner. Over many years I always got happy, when I saw old movies and pictures.
Finally 3 years ago, I was earning my own money I decided to search for the boat. My dream was, to bring Moomba back in our family property.
Finally after 2 years of intense search I succeeded. I found the boat in northern Germany in Köln. 3 months later I also succeeded with the engine. I bought A Mercury (1977) in Berlin.
I live in Graz - Austria so it was more than 2000km to go to Köln and Berlin - but it was my childhood dream - so the distance was no problem at all.

I was lucky to get a boat in quite good condition - especially the sky material for the seats. However I decided to rebuilt the boat and the engine completely. More than 40 companies worldwide helped me to succeed. After 10 months my Moomba was finished.
It looks brand new - and I am very very proud and will never sell this great boat again!

I send you some pictures about the restoration - if you do have question - feel free and ask me.

Best wishes from Austria
Klaus
