2014 CLASSIC BOAT AUCTION AT BEALE PARK
Issue Date: March 2014
Consignments for the inaugural Classic Boat Auction to be held at Beale Park near Reading on Saturday 7th June 2014 are mounting and a diverse collection of traditional river craft, rowing and river memorabilia and model and toy boats will go under the hammer.
The Classic Boat Auction provides a unique opportunity to buy and/or sell at a specialist auction run by experts in both auctioneering and traditional boat brokering run in partnership with Special Auction Services and Henley Sales & Charter.
The catalogue of boats to be auctioned ranges from the very small to the very large, here are a few examples of what will be on offer:
‘Small’ - this is a lovely, original Art Deco pond yacht, a great shape and in very good condition. It has a wooden painted hull and decked upper with a crest. It is approx. 6ft with masts included and is estimated at £600 to £900.
‘Medium’ – ‘Melodie’ is a 20 ft. Electric Canoe, the first in a series made by Peter Freebody. Based on a popular style of craft from the early part of the last century, it retains all the charm and grace of the original combined with clever, subtle changes to the underwater profile, which makes it extremely manoeuvrable and offers silent cruising. Estimated at £22,000 - £25,000.
‘Large’ – ‘Arabella’ is an extremely pretty gentleman's launch in great condition with an unusual clerestory roof, toilet compartment and galley, built of mahogany on oak in 1932 by Taylor Bates of Chertsey. She was restored in 2006 and is still in pristine condition – a regular visitor to the Henley Royal Regatta. She is estimated at £85,000 – 95,000.
As well as classic boats, interesting ephemera and memorabilia will be offered. For example there are two Venetian Forcole. These carved walnut gondola oar rests are highly desirable and will be estimated between £200 and £500

BBC celebrity auctioneer Thomas Plant will be on the rostrum representing his company Special Auction Services (SAS). SAS is a specialist auction house based in Newbury and will be responsible for cataloguing and running the sale ensuring worldwide exposure and bidding. To find out more call 01635 580595.
Gillian Nahum from Henley Sales and Charter is responsible for the consignments and is a self-confessed ‘classic boat junkie’. To discuss consignments call Gillian on 07813 917730.
The deadline for consignments is the 1st April 2014.

Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!
