Hello,
My name is Matt and I have just joined today. Firstly, what a great website and club you are running here. I have a rare aft cabin version of the Cox & Haswell Rapier 3100 (The Galloping Ghost), built in '68 for the London Boat Show. Desinged and built by Len Cox to take on the fairey boats of that time, my question is....as a sports cruiser, am I legible to join the CMBA or is it just for the classic sport boats as per your photo gallery.
Love to hear from anyone....and thanks for your time!
Matt

Re: Am I legible to join the CMBA
Hi Matt and welcome - know the Rapier, but never seen an aft cabin version. (My Rapier was an 11ft Broom..) I know one of our members used to own a 3100 a few years back. We have a number of members who own bigger cruisers, such as Fairey Huntsman, Huntress and Christina, Storboro Royal, a few Trianas and a Freeman MK1, in addition to their smaller (and in most cases, multiple..) boats.
The emphasis in the club and the magazine tends to be on smaller launches, speedboats and runabouts, but those that have bigger motor boats have either gravitated to owning smaller launches, speedboats and runabouts and campaigning them at rallies and meets. There is a social side to the club, so some meets are 'dry' and take in Gaydon, the ex-Museum at Basildon, Duxford and next year Chatham Dockyard. Other rallies end up being some boating and a lot of socialising, you'd be most welcome if you'd like to join. Keith and Janice Burgess, our membership secretaries can be reached from the contact details on the main website, if you need more detail.

Re: Am I legible to join the CMBA
Hi all,
Firstly many thanks for your kind words. I will endevour to add some pics of my Rapier 3100. They only built 2 of the aft cabin version to look like and take on the huntsmans of its time. teh Ghost is the only convertible one with a factory fitted large radar arch and as said before, she was built purely for the London Boat Show in '68. She was never raced at Cowes/Torquay like her sister ships. She is currently undergoing restoration and Im looking to complete next summer. She is on the hard standing down on the River Medway near Maidstone. There was only 12 Rapier 3100's ever built so she is quite a rare girl. Powered by 2x Perkins HT6.354s, topping out at 26 knots......so she sounds nice too!
I think I now need to join this wonderful club. Appreciate all your great feedback and thank you for making me feel so welcome. Ps. always looking for that helping hand albeit knowledge of these boats or the good old physical side!
Best Wishes
Matt

I have rebuilt a few of those in my time. Good solid engines, not the most powerful but they will go on & on if looked after well.2x Perkins HT6.354s
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!

My two Perkins are the horizontal mounted 145hp aftercooled. I will be giving them a full service in the new year...maybe I can lean on you for advice and tips......or try and persuade you to pop over? Thanks for your comments though! Matt
