Hydro steering

Post by Woodwych »

Quick question on setting up the direct steering on my hydro.
How many turns around the drum should the wire cable have?
There are just 2 big channels on the drum and 3 holes. I am assuming I just slot the cable through the middle hole then wind in alternate directions in each channel?

Yes, wind it in alternate direction in each channel, as to how many turns, we like to set them up so as they have still got around 1- 1 1/2 turns left on the drum when its on full lock as a minimum , also don't use plastic covered steering cable, use soft ( flexible) rigging cable.

A Se7en says have at least a full turn (2 if there's room)left on each side of the spool on full lock each side this will prevent the cable slipping through the spool. 7x19 stainless wire rope is the one to go for, 4mm diameter will be fine. Don't use guardrail cable it is not flexible enough and will break in no time.
