Windscreen material thickness

Post by OJ77 »

Can anyone advise me on the material thickness required for my Broom Gemini windscreen ? My boat is missing this invaluable item and its making trips out rather wet currently.
I have contacted J. Broom for a new metal surround but i want to make a temporary screen for now and previous attempts have failed due to wrong material being used(cutting corner on price).

If you have your original screen.... simply take a template from it and cut it out from 3mm Lexan (Polycarbonate).
This will take a cold bend and is quite rigid when in the channel surround. If you're careful (it'll be a bit 'twangy') you should be able to use this 'as is' prior to fitting the surround. Have a look here as well:

Aaaahh... that does make it a little trickier :hmmm:

As your getting Brooms to supply a surround, they may be willing to supply a template for the screen itself (I'm sure they'd knock up the 'real thing' for you but at a price).

You may want to stick another post up here asking if anyone has one they'd be willing to take a template off for you* - going to be difficult to shape and fit a new screen without something to work from anywhichway...

Keep us posted!

I have the remnants of my Gemini screen...has a broken corner, but if you're willing to pop over and make a template of it? Am near Southampton, East of.. My boat was the earlier one with the standard screen; this one http://www.cmba-uk.com/coppermine/cpg14 ... um=3&pos=4
Fasten bra straps and remove dentures...

That would be great :perfect: it would save me a whole lot of grief and be original. I will PM you and hopefully we can work something out.

Much appreciated
