WELL i have been to basildon and i have collected NYMPH-O came across some bits of news whilst i was there,
talking to the workers, the three older gentlemen whilst there, they told to me that a lot of the old spares are going to go to either LANDFILL or scrapping!!!!!!!!!
that is horrendous, i looked around and saw umpteen amount of bits and pieces for the older outboard and/or boats to keep a lot of people happy for a long time

the riva has been sold and is soon on its way to lake garda the workers say it sold for 260,000 WOW
there is a boat out the back which is called PACE SETTER and is an all aluminium 35-40 footer built by the BRITISH PETROLEUM RESEARCH CENTRE talking to A.MOTT
we reckon it was either a gas turbine or a deisel electric
here is a photo can anyone help in identifying, as it is off to landfill very very soon

glad of your interest alarcity,
i know the boat was a non starter, but the lines are beautiful, and so well made, if i had a trailer large enough i would bring it here it is a crying shame that historical boats are not loved as much as motor cars

This from the 'Friends of the Museum':-

"Strenuous efforts are being made by both the Museum Officer and the Friends of the Museum to relocate the exhibits in their entirety. Some individual exhibits are being moved at the behest of their owners, in full consultation with the museum, but otherwise everything is staying put! Complicated and sensitive negotiations are underway to secure a new home, which must not be compromised in any way, so if CMBA members or other contributors to our site hear further rumours that may lead to conjecture please make them known in a personal message (PM) to the site administrators"

We hope to have a statement from the Museum officer in due course.

This has been received today from the Museum Officer:-

"We are working with the friends of the motorboat museum to find an alternative location for the collection. If an offer of relocation is successful then we hope that the collection will remain together, including the outboard / inboards. The ultimate decision as to the relocation of boat not owned by the council rests with the owners.

Pacesetter has been moved to a storage unit we have at the landfill site. It is not being disposed of at landfill."

I ask again...does anybody know what's happening at this sorry old farm?

I read of a boat being swapped for two engines from Pitsea on the Coventry Boatbuilder's site. They like to use
original engines where they can.
Now that's a good use for old engines, but we need to be able to keep an eye on where they go...such as the rare, possibly unique, Meadows Whippet, made for the Whippet class of hydros before the War.

And so many other things. What about the collection of models, Mike Karslake's record breaking tethered hydros for instance?

I can't believe there isn't more hoo-hah about this.

I'd like to take the lines off a few of the boats while they remain, such as the Fenn & Wood and Merk. Can one still get to them?
