Crossflow into Albatross

Post by silver fish »

I'm planning on putting a Ford Crossflow into my A-series Albatross.

Any pointers? I'd particularly like to know the set-up for the oil/exhaust cooling circuit, I only have a vague notion. I'd also like to know whether the main cooling circuit needs the cast-type header tank or would something else work.

Thanks in advance

The Albatross Register have a lot of the original illustrations etc for the A series boats. I have a Mk3 and a Dateline Bikini so can make some observations on likely fit.

My Dateline has both oil and water coolers on the same raw water circuit (oil first). The water heater exchanger has a header cum expansion tank. As it is a jet, there is no need for a raw water pump but your circuit will need one. (I suspect the original double bottom may be marginal for a higher output engine.

Fitting a thrust bearing to the crossflow may be interesting - with the 100e there is little spare room between the prop shaft stuffing box and the engine. Best of luck!
