Mercruiser Power trim

Post by broompisces »

Dear all,
I have a 1968 Mercruiser 120hp. My son has just telephoned me from the boat to say the power trim is working intermittently; sometimes it won't trim up, sometimes it will. I won't be able to look at it until the weekend. Ahead of me doing that - any clues for me? I know the fluid is at the right level, so I was thinking a loose wire or wonky solenoid. As far as I know, there is no "clicking" from the solenoid when the trim buttons are depressed - it just does nothing. I'll check all connections when I get to the boat. Thanks in advance...

My first thought is air in the system. If that checks out,worn/sticking brushes in the trim pump motor.
no matter how bad it is,it can always get worse,I'm an optimist
