Thrust bearing for Ford crossflow

Post by AlbertRoss »

Would anyone like to share any pictures or descriptions of ways in which a thrust bearing can be added to a Ford 1600 Crossflow fitted in an Albatross, in normal Albatross configuration with drive taken of the pulley end?
I have heard of it being done in various ways, either within the timing cover, or externally on the prop shaft, or alternatively with an arrangement at the flywheel end. The latter seems only partly satisfactory as the thrust load would be transmitted through the webs and crank pins of the crankshaft. On the other hand there is not much room between the stuffing box and the crankshaft pulley.
