I've looked at those photos many times!! As I said I need it explained fairly simply - Is it possible to couple them with off-the-shelf parts or do I need it engineered? If I need it engineered what is the simplest way, the photos look like a specialist solution!

That looks like a boat that is or was owned by a CMBA member , He engineered those parts himself , very clever bloke. Not sure he uses the internet too often.
I remember having a conversation as to why he wanted to put the engine in his boat the wrong way round !

No off the shelf options available ,at least i have never seen anything but somebody may correct me , my own thinking is the original crossflow timing cover is pretty flimsy , i have milled one lately so i can adjust the cam timing without pulling the cover off.
