The twin SU carbs on my Climax Albatross have never had an air filter on them. I think that's how they were made.
Reading some material for the boat safety scheme for the chris-craft, I wonder whether I should fit, for safety, an air filter with a flame-trapping gauze.
Any thoughts? Does anyone/everyone else have filterless SU carbs in their albatrosses? What could be fitted?
Many thanks
Richard
(PS - no, i'm not trying to get the albatross through BSS.... although i believe that one person did achieve it)

Re: SU carbs - air filters?
Not on a boat I'll admit but i have an old mini which runs and SU. I've fitted a trumpet/ram pipe to it with a gauze across the end. I've also got a piper x removable sock filter for it.
