Johnson Hood/Engine Cowl Seal

Post by BroomBroom »

Oh yes...
It's me again - stripped the hood, repainted and waiting for the decals :D

Problem is that the rubber seal around the bottom had to be removed and is in poor shape and very brittle - so replacement is in order. I've actually found that the pukka replacement is available but at a huge price (like £35+). So has anybody found a similar section or know of a NOS length lying around anywhere please?

Cheers,

Robin

Thanks Guys...

Howstar - pic attached, is it like this? If so is it new (ish)? I need about a 6' length (2xmetres)
Yup, very likely I'll have a spare steering cable soon... will let you know.

Rapier - Yup, I know those guys well - bought so much from them I reckon I must have shares in the place!
Can't seem to find anything there (or at Baines - another excellent source) that comes close :(

Cheers,

R

Where have you ordered the decals from?
I had a link to a shop on eBay in Canada who would make them up, but somewhere closer to home would be preferred.

I have a 1986 Johnson 70VRO.

Hi,

Decals (hopefully) on their way from Nana's Decal Store - probably the guys you were thinking of.
I've only found very generic decals available from UK sellers, so this may be your only option. I'll let you know the quality etc. when they arrive!

Cheers,

Well, I'm pretty satisfied with them...

They didn't actually have any specifically for my 25, but I ordered those for a 40. They changed the figures, put the correct 'Sea Horse' script on the back and reduced them in size (to my measurements) to fit the surrounds in which they sit - all at no extra charge! Supplied with good application instructions and a freebie squeegee. Fast service and were here within a couple of weeks - so there you go...

Cheers,

R

Well, after seeing the result of your efforts, I ordered the decals on Friday night on eBay. Luckily they had the right ones for the 60/70hp models (same graphic for both engines, just different numbers).

Stripped the old decals off today and gave the hood a good clean and a few coats of white gloss - ready for the new decals in a few weeks time.

Bring on Cardiff - and keep this good weather up!
