850XS

Post by Rapier »

This is from the 1977 catalogue...the only difference with stock 850 vs 850XS in the catalogue is the XS is 239lbs, 50 less than the 850 which figures as the 850 was 20in shaft and an extra 500rpm to 6K rather than the stock 5.5K.

Fun on a Healey Sprite!
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!

Bodmin finally came home today; I've been tardy picking it up from Chris, so he kindly brought it around. The thought of re-powering Tango with it is exciting (having said that, the thunderthingys go so well with a Merc 500...). Before that a strip and rebuild with the normal bits will necessary. We think the b*up team have been there at some stage and as these are so rare it'd be a shame to have it anything but completely on the button.
