I am looking for an outboard of about 20hp upwards................. 50's or 60's.
Anyone who attended Chichester will have seen the 2 steves..... me and steve!!!!!! pottering around in a small red finned speedboat in red with a 5 hp on the back. This desperately needs a nice outboard (and some trailer work!)
I think, due to the light build of the Derry, a fairly light outboard is wanted. Something in red or white would work well with the aesthetics.
thanks...............steve

Cheers Malc..... We think 25 is about the max needed on this boat. Would love to whack that 100 on there though!

Re: old outboard wanted
I think a late 60's Merc 20hp would be great for that boat: red/black & chrome. See picture below for the style - this is a 1968 65hp though but the styling was the same throughout the range. 1969 very similar but with engine size decals each side of the cowling in white. See HERE for an example of 1969 Merc 20 decals. I have a '68 20 (I think, may be '69) at work but it needs a little sorting, not touched it since I bought it.
Mercs are like women, no 2 are exactly alike. That's what testing is about. In general it is safer to test motors and props than women!

Re: old outboard wanted
That sounds very interesting. I have zero experience of outboards. What would need fixing?

Don't know yet as I haven't really looked at it, but I believe the throttle is seized for one but as I say I don't really know. If there is serious interest i will give it a proper look over.

You could try these guys who specialise in older 2 stroke outboards, who are very helpfull & have parts going back to 1950s & give advise. Outboard & Marine Services, Sutton Coldfield email: ob.marine@gmail.com Tel :07010 708648
