The 3 spare switchboxes I borrowed and I tested were telling me I was reading the wrong data line on the DVA, it was a duff / broken coil all along..

. Swapped it out with another NOS £5 coil from Beaulieu. Too Sunday-ish to fire it up on the muffs today...
