Re: Evinrude Starflight
That Evinrude Starflight still seems to be on the market at £750, after 6 months? I made some offers around £1-200, but he wasn't interested. I've just done a little more on my Evinrude Big Twin project this weekend. This engine a complete basketcase - £50, seized pistons, rusted bores, a compromise...

Re: Evinrude Starflight
Wow - looks nice, doesn't it!
Good that the boat's back on the water again, after all those years in the museum.

Re: Evinrude Starflight
Jörgen Lundén has done a super job on his GT115s.

Re: Evinrude Starflight
Oh dear - about the Tremlett and its Johnson GT-115 parting company. I thought it was an original racer, from the late '60s or early '70s. What a sad end to the story.

Re: Evinrude Starflight
Advance sounds very interesting. It would be nice to see the Tremlett, with the GT115, in action, on the water. We stumbled over the 707, being auctioned on carsandclassics website on Friday. It got to €42k - but not sure that it actually changed hands. The paintwork job on the Corvette Evinrude loo...

Re: Evinrude Starflight
I like the 100hp engines. Is this the boat you are talking about? I've only seen one of these engines in the UK - on a Tremlett, that survived in the Basildon boat museum, with the double-pinion, slim racing gearbox. Hopefully it will appear on the water one day. A chap in Sweden (I think?) has a pa...

Re: Evinrude Starflight
Would be a nice engine - but too expensive. I didn't expect to see any more of these in the UK. The last two I picked up didn't cost more that about £200 each, and I haven't done much with either of them yet - although both turn nicely and seem in reasonable condition.

Re: OMC 40hp Gearboxes - late 1960s
A few pictures of the powerhead on the '62 Johnson 40hp, now reassembled with the exhaust leg. I managed to achieve quite a flat finish on the exhaust leg, but the powerhead is in a sorry state. At some stage in the future, I'm going to have to take the crankshaft out and re-surface this casing. But...

Re: OMC 40hp Gearboxes - late 1960s
We took the '62 Johnson 40hp to the Hamble Rally recently and had a great day with everyone. The engine misbehaved intially, starting on 1 cylinder, but when the 2nd cut in, it ran very well. Thanks for the advice on marine 2-stroke. I gave it a barrel run when we got home, and as you can see from t...

Re: OMC 40hp Gearboxes - late 1960s
Yes, the fuel does seem to be causing all sorts of problems doesn't it. I found your discussions on gearboxes very interesting. I'll try and dig out the worn parts I took out of my '62 Big Twin years ago. Both the dog and shifter fork were worn on the forward gear side, so I replaced both. Bottom en...
