Re: What the Easter bunny gave me today!

To be honest, luck has nothing to do with it, I just have very, very good friends! Most of my engines I get like this one are from leads from them. And yes, I do have a lovely little Sangstercraft I am restoring to run them on! At least it keeps me out of the pubs. ;)

What the Easter bunny gave me today!

I am absolutely chuffed with this my latest acquisition. This is a 1955 Mercury Mark 55 in stunning original condition. it sat in a dealer showroom in the States for years until it was purchased by one of my mates who just sold it to me. Very little usage and it shows. The paint is all original as i...

Re: Project Mercury 500

Take a good look at the flywheel flexplate, they do crack quite commonly on that engine. Crank bearings are not to hard to replace but if it was mine I would pull the powerhead off and split the crankcase for a lookie see. Not as bad a job as you might think!

Re: Johnson 4HP twin

Don't toss it in the rubbish! Weld a 3/8 drive socket to the spline end of the crank and grind the driveshaft to match the square drive of the socket. The engine will never notice the difference and neither will you! I have done tons and it works a treat.

Re: Project Mercury 350

OK. I will pull it apart and rebuild it just in case. I was going to do that anyway but I will move it up the project list. Cheers.

Re: Johnson 40hp Electric Project

Too bad you were not closer.... I have a very clean 1964 Johnson with controls and I can't give the damn thing away, there is just no interest in these engines where I live!!! I tried to advertise the engine to rehome it and never got one call. Shame about it!
