Just a thought on your overheating coil. If you are using a dynamo it is possible that your regulator is overcharging. Hi Mirak. I have a spare parts catalog for a 1967 6hp models CD-CDL-24S. Has good clear diagrams and I find more usefull than the workshop manuals.
Have other parts manuals for many Johnson outboards, mainly 1964. Workshop manual for 1966 Evinrude 18hp and original owners manual.

It was the one that recenly sold on ebay. It was described as a 55 built in 1961 with a 1600 engine. However it is one of the first batch of about 40 boats as it is 16 foot and has a 1500 engine, so was probably built in 1956.
