BMW Plancraft Sabre.....wreck

Post by warspite »

Hi all, have just joined this forum as I have just acquired my first project boat. I am normally a classic car guy, but always wanted a classic boat, and this came up at the right price at the right time. As the title says it is a 17' sabre Plancraft boat, when they collaborated with BMW, so has the engine of a BMW 2002 ti, with BMW out drive.
Well for £650 I was not expecting a lot, and I was right!
Apart from the cracked hull, seized engine, rotted exhaust manifold, missing interior, unknown leg condition, etc, its fine. At the moment I am assessing everything, before throwing money at it, but beside all the negatives, I really like the look of this boat, and am happy....at the moment.

Hope you have fun, which is the most important part! Some of the marinising bits for the engine and outdrive parts are hard to find (and expensive), but I often see them 2nd hand on the auction site.

Well reality has struck....hard. But I am a determined sod, with reasonable skills, some money, and time. The engine is still seized solid, but i have removed the BMW out drive, and that seems serviceable. However, I dont know if this is considered a sin, but I looking to going from inboard to outboard. Will I be shot?

Worthwhile finding an outboard version, rather than going to further trouble and expense?
