New Event in Glasgow Sept 2016

Post by kgarla »

This a new event I have just been advised of being organised by Mr John Macmillan. Please See the following... Kgarla. Please make contact direct with John as below if interested.

Classic boat owners are invited to sail, row, motor, steam or paddle on the River Clyde at the inaugural “Skiffies and Classic Boats at the Tall Ship”, Glasgow”. It gives a rare opportunity to access the river at the West End of Glasgow, and explore the Clyde right up to the city centre.

The event takes place over the weekend of 24th and 25th September. The newly formed Glasgow Coastal Rowing Club will host St Ayles Skiff racing on the Saturday. On the Sunday the Skiffs will have informal rowing, and they will be joined by the Classics. Organiser John Macmillan said “the scope of boats invited is very broad. If you think your boat is a classic, it’s most likely welcome”.

On the water, there will be rowing, sailing, and steam boats. Shore based actives will include boat building demonstrations, and newly built wooden boats on show. Spectators can watch from the quayside, or aboard Glasgow’s Tall Ship “Glenlee”. As with all Glasgow’s museums, entry is free.

The event is supported by Anchor and Sail, a Heritage Lottery funded project that aims to engage members of the public with maritime heritage through building and traditional boats.
