My albatross came with a ford x flow which was siezed up .I have managed to free it the bores look ok .
But not sure wot size it is 1500/1600
the number on the side of block are 2737E 6015A T4 And on the head T1
Is it worth a rebuild?
Does anybody know of some one who could do a rebuild it in Dorset ?

I may be wrong on this, but I don't think the X flow came in a 1500. I thought it was 13 or 1600??? Others wwill confirm I am sure. I know a car restorer in Somerset who is restoring a Healey 55 boat at the moment who would be able to do your engine I would have thought. I can PM his details to you if you like. They are not difficult to do so anyone with engine rebuilding experience should be able to help.

There are 2 types of cross flow the early ones made from late 1967 till about late 1968,then the later model came out with wider crank bearings and a stronger block these have the code 711M cast in the block in large letters, they are both good soild engines, but the later one is the one to get if you can, the parts are easier to get, and most of the tunning parts are made for that model, all cross flows came as,1100,1300,1600, and they could all have 711M cast in !! they all have the same size bore, I think its 77mm, its the stroke of the crank that alters the c.c. I'll check that tommorow and post the infomation up,also Glynn, I may have some information on that photo of your dad in "Cheeter" you posted on the old site.

2737E 6015 , This is an early crossflow , the 1600 has a longer stroke so check how much space is between the water pump and the head , the 1600 has more "meat".
The 711M motor is the one to go for if you have BA at the end its the 1600 , 1300 is AA , The early crossflows are tuneable but the later motors have stronger main caps and cam followers. The holy grail of crossflow motors is the AX block these can be overbored to 1800 or more but go for absolutely daft money.
The T numbers denote which casting it is. T1 is the first , T20 the last out of the mould . The later the T number is , allegedly the greater possibility of large overbores without going through into the water jacket

My 1600 crossflow has the letters CA at the end of the numbers AA stands for 1300,BA stands for 1600 any suggestions on CA .I have asked far and wide and nobody seems able to tell me.I would really like to Know!!

The last of the 1500cc non ‘L’ blocks, originally fitted with 6 bolt crank, usually bores to 83.5mm OK. Requires relieving for clearance if fitted with a Lotus crank. Round main caps.
