According to Kevin Desmond's Century of Outboard Racing ... Kiekhaefer offered exclusive sales of Mercs for the UK to the first racer who would run one of these motors in the UK. Len Melly took the dare. This is the only picture I have ever seen of Len running the Mark75H.

What date was that Bunny, I have often wondered exactly when Mercury's started to be sold new here?

Probably 1959, maybe 1960

They are a beautiful engine, I'd love to do one up someday. :hmmm:

Thanks for that Bunny

I love the look of them but I don't know that I would want to cope with a 'dockbuster' (no reverse gear, you stop the engine, move the 'gear' lever then restart the engine running backwards. Neutral is engine off!).

Great post Bunny. Would explain why the 300 and 350s are relatively common; have seen footage of John Merryfield racing the 4 pots of that period too.

Alacrity, I'd be happy to have a Dockbuster, can be no worse than my mountaineering Broom Saturn with reversed MerControl :hilarious:

THAT is why I wouldn't want a dockbuster.

Lol. I wonder what happened to the Mk75H? Lying gathering dust under a workbench, or cooked a long time ago?

I speculate it may be the one that turned up in Belgium
